Eid(?) in Palestine - by Dr Farrukh Anwar

I gave you a bath and put on new clothes, Took in the scent of mehndi on your fingers and toes, Decorated your hair with tiny, colourful clips and a big flower, Set a little handbag on your shoulders, a need of the hour And blew over you to protect from the evil eye, Hugged you, kissed you, "Happy eid, apple of my eye! " I turned around and froze, A scene from somewhere arose, Both legs plastered upto the thighs, Pellet riddled face and vacant eyes , The smell of dried blood welcomed me, She held close to her heart another baby, A sibling who had just breathed her last, Life had turned upside down in the few months past. " Mama, baba if only I could get a glimpse of you, alas! It would have been the best eidi for which I could ask! But no worries, I know Allah is with me, One day not far away, he will surely set us free!" I trembled, tears rolling down my face, I lost my composure, sanity and grace. So while you and I tweet and celebrate, Do send up a little prayer ...

From Darkness to Dreams: A Poignant Tale of Loss, Welcome, and the Cry for a Free Palestine by Dr Farrukh Anwar

Image
It was dark and bleak, You knocked. We opened our doors wide. There you stood trembling, From hunger and fear shivering.  Having lost your land and love,  From having no roof above.  Terror writ large on your faces, In pain, left only with traces.  Vacant eyes with no dreams, You had no smiles, only screams! We hugged and welcomed you, You got a foothold and grew.  You were happy and warm  again, Your forgot your persecution and pain. You flourished, but your branches became tentacles, They suffocated, smothered and hurt like hell! Here we stand trembling, From hunger and fear, shivering.  Having lost most of our land and love,  From Having no roof above.  Terror writ large on our faces, In pain, Left only with traces.  Not a crumb to eat, not a drop to drink, We know not how many are left from our kith and kin.  What flows here are rivers of blood, What blows here are clouds of dust.  Not buildings but homes you have de...

B-24/7 | Boycott 24/7 | Phase 3 of our Boycott Campaign

Image
As we near the conclusion of a resolute 28-day (7 days + 21 days) boycott of Zionist products, our sincere gratitude extends to the people of Kolkata and its surroundings for their unwavering support. Their wholehearted embrace of this campaign has significantly elevated awareness surrounding the ongoing issue - an achievement we acknowledge with deep appreciation. However, rather than marking the end, this marks a transition to a more decisive phase in response to the relentless violence perpetrated by Israel. In the past 70 days alone, nearly 20,000 lives have been lost, and over 50,000 individuals have been injured. The urgency of the situation is further exacerbated as winter approaches, posing increased challenges for the 23 lakh Palestinians, with approximately 17 lakhs residing in camps. In light of these escalating challenges, we find it necessary to intensify our efforts.  Moving beyond the 7D7P and 21DP phases, we are now advancing into a more assertive stage. Enter...

Boycott's Direct Impact: Coca-Cola's Decline Under the Spotlight

Image
The Coca-Cola Company has faced significant backlash and boycotts in Muslim-majority countries, including the Middle East, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Malaysia, leading to substantial financial losses. In response, Coca-Cola has shifted its focus to non-Muslim majority nations like India, where it plans to implement a new strategy known as "21DP." Coca-Cola's Plan for India includes several key initiatives: 1. New Marketplace - "Cokeshop" Coca-Cola is set to launch its own marketplace, "Cokeshop," utilising the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to empower retailers to sell their products. 2. Launching Alcohol Brand - "Lemon Dou" To expand its presence in non-Muslim countries, Coca-Cola will introduce an alcohol brand, "Lemon Dou," in the Indian market. 3. Subway Partnership Coca-Cola has partnered with Subway, with 570 outlets set to offer Coca-Cola products, strengthening the brand's presence in India. 4. Tea Division - ...

Contrasts of Existence: A Poem - 'Their Lives and Ours' by CA Faiz Anwar

Image
They wake up alarmed; we wake up to alarms. They realise they’re still alive; we enjoy our lives. They search for food; our fridges are stocked. They queue up for water; we refresh in showers. They’re grateful to get dry bread; we have an abundance. They starve; we feast. They’re scared; we live carefree. They strive to survive; we strive to prosper. They've nowhere to go; we have the entire world. Their belongings are just what they wear; ours are unending. They fear for their children's lives; we plan for our children’s lifetime. They sleep in the open; we relish the comfort of our homes. They shiver; we have warmth. Their nights are sleepless; we sleep throughout. They live in the ruins and dust; we can't stand the dust in our homes. They've lost hope; our dreams are boundless. They see only grey and red; we enjoy the beauty of rainbows. They count their   dead ; do we count our blessings? We bury our dead; UNDER RUBBLE, MANY OF THEM GET BURIED ALIVE! My appeal to yo...

Eyes, Void of Life: A Poignant Reflection on the Tragedy in Gaza

Image
Was he a day, or a week old? And was the baby 'he' or 'she'? What difference does it make? It was a baby, an infant who had, perhaps not even tasted a morsel of solid food. When was he born? Who are his parents? Where are they? Are they alive? Or died with him? Or died before? Did he even have a name? Could he see his parents and siblings? Unanswered questions cascade through my thoughts. All that can be seen is his little face, an open mouth with toothless gum, dry lips, a dimpled chin, and a straight nose. And, of course, his eyes! Half-open, tired, without hope, AND DEAD !    Those eyes, that once, would have been bright and shiny at birth, darting from one object to the other. But now, it is so painful to see them. They are so poignant. Once you see them, you won’t be able to forget. And you shouldn’t! Those eyes should keep us awake. Because we have been witness to those eyes becoming lifeless! They demand attention, a lingering reminder of our impotence in preser...

G is for 'Gaza', not for 'Genocide'

Image
We are witnessing a genocide right now. The Palestinians, who accommodated the Jews decades ago, are being subjected to the most inhuman treatment and torture by the Zionists. Bombs are falling almost every minute. A person is injured every two minutes and killed every 4 minutes. There are about 50,000 women in different stages of their pregnancies. Every day about 200 babies come into this hellish environment. Babies are getting killed in the hospitals by bombs as well as lack of treatment. And the bombs on the hospitals - they are not by accident - they are intentionally targeted. Homes, schools, hospitals, roads, nothing remain! Living in the rubble with a risk to their lives every moment, we just can’t imagine the plight of these people. No food, no water, no electricity, no medicines. Perhaps their tear ducts would have long dried. Just how much can a heart bear the loss of dear ones – one, two, five, ten – 42 members of the same family!!! Yes, it is hard to believe but it is tr...
