Eid(?) in Palestine - by Dr Farrukh Anwar

I gave you a bath and put on new clothes, Took in the scent of mehndi on your fingers and toes, Decorated your hair with tiny, colourful clips and a big flower, Set a little handbag on your shoulders, a need of the hour And blew over you to protect from the evil eye, Hugged you, kissed you, "Happy eid, apple of my eye! " I turned around and froze, A scene from somewhere arose, Both legs plastered upto the thighs, Pellet riddled face and vacant eyes , The smell of dried blood welcomed me, She held close to her heart another baby, A sibling who had just breathed her last, Life had turned upside down in the few months past. " Mama, baba if only I could get a glimpse of you, alas! It would have been the best eidi for which I could ask! But no worries, I know Allah is with me, One day not far away, he will surely set us free!" I trembled, tears rolling down my face, I lost my composure, sanity and grace. So while you and I tweet and celebrate, Do send up a little prayer ...

Tagore on Palestine: Unheeded Wisdom, Lessons for Peace

Image
What was Tagore’s Palestine Dream? Albert Einstein and Rabindranath Tagore in Berlin on 1926 | Courtesy: lbi.org T he ongoing genocide in Gaza– aerial bombardment and ground invasion in the 17 sq. miles small strip of besieged land at the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and a smaller part of residual Palestine, long occupied by the Zionist Israeli State led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu– has already surpassed the horrors of Guernica, epitomized by Pablo Pissco in his 1937 oil painting. The pulverizing of the small Basque town by Fascist bombers in Republican Spain and the carpet bombing in the German city of Dresden by the Allied forces during the prelude and crescendo of the Second World War, respectively, have long been considered the ultimate symbols of the aerial pounding of urban civilian populations and destructions of their life-supporting infrastructure. In contrast, hourly rising tolls in Gaza today, both in terms of human lives including that of children and women as we...

Resurrecting Humanity: A Poetic Plea for Change by Sabiha Nehal Arzoo

Death of Humanity Last year humanity died, Many rejoiced, and very few cried. Blood-stained bodies all around, No safe haven on the ground. Love, joy, and peace snatched away, A deadly silence is left to stay. No water to drink, No food to eat. No children to hug, No families to greet. No mothers to dry the painful tears, No fathers to chase away the fears. No homes left to keep warm, No shelter to brace against the storm. No mourns are heard, No tears were shed. It clearly shows  Humanity is dead. Come forward, children of the world, You have to realise the reality. Lend your voice, show your strength, Together, resurrect the dead HUMANITY. From Darkness to Dreams: A Poignant Tale of Loss, Welcome, and the Cry for a Free Palestine by Dr Farrukh Anwar

Image
It was dark and bleak, You knocked. We opened our doors wide. There you stood trembling, From hunger and fear shivering.  Having lost your land and love,  From having no roof above.  Terror writ large on your faces, In pain, left only with traces.  Vacant eyes with no dreams, You had no smiles, only screams! We hugged and welcomed you, You got a foothold and grew.  You were happy and warm  again, Your forgot your persecution and pain. You flourished, but your branches became tentacles, They suffocated, smothered and hurt like hell! Here we stand trembling, From hunger and fear, shivering.  Having lost most of our land and love,  From Having no roof above.  Terror writ large on our faces, In pain, Left only with traces.  Not a crumb to eat, not a drop to drink, We know not how many are left from our kith and kin.  What flows here are rivers of blood, What blows here are clouds of dust.  Not buildings but homes you have de...
